In September 2008, I had the privilege of attending my first Drupal training program as part of an extended workshop offered by Laura Scroggins (www.slobake.com.)

It has been my experience that while a presenter may have exhaustive knowledge about their subject matter, the ability to communicate such knowledge to others is oftentimes greatly lacking.  Let me say that this was not my experience in the training I received from Laura. She is both exhaustive in her knowledge about the in-n-outs of Drupal as well as being wholly capable of communicating and presenting this information in a simple and concrete manner.

I would strongly recommend that anyone with an interest in learning more about Drupal first begin by attending one or more training program offered by Laura.  I know I’ll be enrolling in one or more of her advanced level programs in 2009!

Laura Scroggins has been an excellent Drupal teacher and resource for my organization. After one, two-day session, Laura Scroggins taught my business partner and I the fundamentals of Drupal, despite our initial limited knowledge of website creation and Content Management Systems.

I met Laura Scroggins at a two-day Drupal Fundamentals I & II workshop she led in early October. She began the workshop with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm--for Drupal, for our individual projects--and it didn't flag even as she demonstrated module after module.

I really appreciated that Laura didn't simply plug in a few modules and show us how they work. She also taught us ways to evaluate the dependability of contributed models and instructed us on best practices for backing up, installing, and configuring the modules. Additionally, Laura provided workshop participants with pointers for evaluating hosting services and Drupal themes. This type of information is nearly as valuable as the hands-on experimentation in Drupal.

Laura supported the lecture/discussion portions of the workshop with relevant examples based on a pre-workshop survey. The survey also allowed her to anticipate some of the specific Drupal features we would be interested in and schedule our time to address those.

Finally, Laura created an online forum so that workshop participants could contribute thoughts, ideas, questions, observations and notes during the class and for a period of time afterwards.

Interpersonally, Laura shined. She remembered and used people's names, acknowledging individual contributions with graceful appreciation and ably fielding questions with answers garnered from her own experience. She was also quite willing to research answers to questions she hadn't heard before.

For all of these reasons, I recommend Laura as a trainer.
